Into the New Year, 2nd Chance founder Nikki Regan is planning on running some very important lifeguard courses for young people. “We are currently looking for funding for that project, and that will need to be a priority before the project can really take off.”
Nikki is also lamenting the fact that she hasn’t been in the office as much as she would have liked over her time here at The Phoenix in 2012, but she explains that this is all set to change. “I am really focusing in 2013, and my main aim is to get these young people that we’re working with, up-and-running on the lifeguard courses.”
In other (great) news, The ever-passionate (and outspoken) Nikki has been nominated for a national award, it’s the Adult’s Individual Learning Award, to be specific! After Nikki scored a SPARK Scholarship, York St John’s own Brett Arnall nominated her to win. “It’s quite flattering really,” reflects Nikki, “because someone from my background would normally have never heard of anything like this award. It brings tears to my eyes that someone can think so much about what we do, and our journey.” The best of luck from us here, Nikki!
Nikki is indeed very proud of her roots at York St John and what our university has helped her to achieve. “People tell me that I am always plugging YSJ, but I think that’s because not many people know just exactly how much work is going on behind the scenes!” Nikki continues: “They’re running the Acorns programme, while also helping people like ourselves find office space, and that’s just the start! There are so many good people here, and they are willing to help.”
